Oilers storm past Stars after slow start to even series

The host Edmonton Oilers scored five straight goals to overcome a two-goal deficit and beat the Dallas Stars 5-2 on Wednesday to tie the Western Conference final series at 2-2.

Ryan McLeod, Evan Bouchard, Mattias Janmark, Leon Draisaitl and Mattias Ekholm scored for the Oilers, who overcame a 2-0 lead less than five and a half minutes into the game.

The Stars fought back through Wyatt Johnston and Esa Lindell, but despite controlling the game early, they were unable to seal the victory.

Goaltender Jake Oettinger stopped 24 shots and Jamie Benn had two assists.

The best-of-seven Stanley Cup playoff series shifts to Dallas for Game 5 on Friday.

With his team trailing by two goals, McLeod sparked a comeback by grabbing a loose puck and scoring his first playoff goal at 13:30 of the first period.

Bouchard tied the game with a rushing rebound opportunity at the 16:17 mark, scoring her sixth game-tying goal of the postseason.

Building on that momentum, Janmark and Draiseitel scored 51 seconds apart to give the Oilers a 4-2 lead.

Out in men, Janmark scored his second of the playoffs at 14:31, scoring on a one-timer shot set up by Connor Brown at midfield.

After scoring in 13 straight games to start the playoffs, Draisaitl hadn’t scored in the past two games, but he showed some strong play in passing with Zach Hyman right after the game.

Edmonton was impressive in the third period, limiting the Stars to eight shots and denying them a key power-play opportunity, before Ekholm’s empty-net goal with 1:53 left in the game sealed the score.

The Stars got off to a strong start, hitting their first four shots on goal to take a 2-0 lead.

Johnston put the team in front with his ninth playoff goal 58 seconds into the game.

Lindell doubled the lead with 5:29 to go when his point shot bounced off a defender and into the net for his third goal of the playoffs.

Their disappointment was compounded when Stars defenseman Chris Tanev left the game after blocking a shot with his foot late in the second period and did not return.
