There’s nothing worse than spending a lot of money on a nice new phone only to have its usefulness diminished by poor battery life. A variety of factors can affect the quality and quantity of your iPhone’s battery life.
“Hello, after you plug your iPhone into the outlet and it finishes charging, [the] What happens to my phone and charger if I leave it plugged in at 100% overnight? Also, will it have any negative effects on the charger if I leave it plugged in when not in use? Thanks.” — Gayle, Clifton, NJ
The short answer to the question is yes, Gayle. It may not damage your iPhone, but it may affect the battery life of your phone. It’s not a bad idea to leave your phone plugged in overnight, as your phone is smart enough to prevent overloading. Once the built-in lithium-ion battery reaches 100% of its capacity, it will stop charging. However, if you leave your phone plugged in overnight, it will use a bit of energy to constantly provide new power every time the battery drops to 99%. This shortens the lifespan of your phone.
Regarding your second question, leaving the charger plugged in when not in use will not damage it. The charger only draws power when it is connected to a device that needs charging, so you can leave it plugged in without worrying about damage.

How do batteries work?
Most modern mobile phones are powered by lithium batteries. Lithium batteries are lightweight, have a long lifespan, charge quickly, and have a high power density. A battery’s lifespan is determined by its chemical aging, which is based on temperature and charging history. As a battery’s chemical aging progresses, the amount of charge it can hold decreases. You can extend the lifespan of your battery by paying attention to how and how often you charge your phone. Here are some ways to care for your phone battery:
