Asghar Ali, 58, is accused of suddenly slamming on his car’s brakes in front of Mesivta Nachlas Jacob School in Canarsie, spinning the vehicle and heading toward bystanders.

Police sources said Ali was a Pakistani taxi driver who had suffered from long-standing mental illness and had been arrested four times, most recently in 1998.

According to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, “96.3 percent of Pakistan’s population is Muslim (85-90 percent Sunni, 10-15 percent Shi’ite, and 0.2 percent Ahmadi).”

There are wheel ruts where he suddenly swerved his car around. FOX 5 NY Briella Tomasetti reported Thursday morning.

Additionally, the moment his car was caught on camera going over the curb and careening down the sidewalk at a dangerous speed.

Ali was driving a white Ford sedan on Glenwood Road, heading east on I-55.Number The Flatbush Shomrim Safety Patrol said the man ran down the street, then turned back toward the male students and the rabbi.

“Witnesses at the scene said he was shouting anti-Semitic slogans, including ‘I’m going to kill all the Jews!’ during his rampage.” Fox 5 report.

Soon after, Ali tried to flee the scene of the incident, but local residents and police quickly located him and arrested him.

Council Member Farrah N. Lewis said in a statement:

“Asghar Ali’s actions in attempting to mow down students outside Mesivta Nachlas Jacob School in Canarsie are reprehensible and will not be tolerated. No group or community should live in fear of violence, discrimination or intimidation. We must address the rise of anti-Semitism to prevent such acts of hate in the future.”

The NYPD has named five men as the suspect’s targets, including three unidentified 18-year-olds, one 41 and one 44. However, the NYPD said none of Ali’s targets were harmed.

The driver was taken into custody by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force on Wednesday night and the investigation remains ongoing.

Ali is accused of more than 10 hate crimes, including intimidation, attempted murder, attempted assault and reckless driving.
