Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. suggested Democrats are trying to weaponize the legal system to stop former President Donald Trump from winning the 2024 presidential election.
A jury in a New York criminal trial found Trump guilty on all charges. The verdict, announced Thursday, came in the midst of a presidential election cycle in which Trump is seeking to defeat Democrat President Joe Biden.
I’m challenging his record.
“The Democrats’ strategy is to defeat President Trump in the courts rather than the ballot box. This will backfire in November. Worse, it is deeply undemocratic. America deserves a president who can win at the ballot box without undermining the separation of powers in government or weaponizing the courts. You cannot save your democracy by destroying it first,” Kennedy said. Tweeted“Democrats fear they will lose at the ballot box, so they are instead pursuing President Trump in court.”
“I’m also taking on President Trump in this election. The difference is, I challenge his record: his COVID lockdowns. his terrible record on the environment. his cozy relationship with corporate America. his support for the war machine. his failure to root out waste and corruption in Washington. his service to the billionaire class. his ballooning national debt. These are issues that shape American lives,” Kennedy continued. “I challenge him on these issues, and the Democrats don’t. And you know why? Because they pursue the exact same policies.”
Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who had indicated she would serve as Trump’s running mate, slammed Biden in a post on Thursday after the verdict was announced.
“Biden is guilty of abuse of power. Biden is guilty of turning our country into a banana republic and using the law to attack political opponents. Biden is guilty of undermining our Constitution and our constitutional freedoms. Biden has proven he is unfit for the office of President,” she tweeted.
Gabbard served in Congress as a Democrat but announced she would leave the party in 2022.
