Biden, Everyone Should ‘Let the Judicial System Take Care of Itself’

In an interview with Bloomberg on Thursday, Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), co-chairman of the Biden campaign, said President Joe Biden shouldn’t talk about the ruling in the case of former President and 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, arguing that everyone should “leave it to the judicial system. We have three branches of government, and they operate independently of each other.”

Co-host Joe Mathews asked:[D]”Would you like to hear Joe Biden start talking openly about this? … Now that the verdict is out, isn’t it time for him to start speaking out loud about this?”

Clyburn responded, “I don’t think so. Preserving our democracy is not a partisan issue. It’s not a Democrat or Republican issue. Our country has worked well with a two-party system. Sometimes it’s to my liking, sometimes it’s not. But I think we all share this responsibility. And, Democrats, I get a little annoyed when I hear people say Democrats have to do this, or Democrats have to do that, to preserve our democracy. Americans need to work together to preserve our democracy and allow our justice system to take care of itself. We have a separation of powers. Each one functions independently. We all have a responsibility to preserve this.”
