More than 2,000 NYC doctors-in-training to get 16.2% pay hike

More than 2,300 medical residents working in New York City’s hospital system will receive a 16.2 percent pay increase. Mayor Eric Adams made the announcement Saturday.

The pay increase package for interns and residents working at NYC Health + Hospitals will be retroactive from mid-December 2021 to mid-June 2027. Residents’ starting salaries will also increase from $66,247 to $81,238 starting in December 2025, and they will also receive a one-time bonus of up to $6,000.

The workers (all members of the committee of the Internship and Resident Services Employees International Union) I worked without a contract for over two years.

“Our hospital workers have been on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, risking their lives to save ours,” Adams said in a statement. “The bare minimum they deserve is a fair wage for the work they do.”
