‘Gossip Girl’ star Taylor Momsen bitten by bat while performing on stage, needs rabies shots for 2 weeks

“Gossip Girl” star Taylor Momsen had a terrifying encounter with a flying bat while performing onstage with her band, The Pretty Reckless, in Seville, Spain on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old singer-songwriter, opening for rock band AC/DC on the European leg of their Power Up tour, was singing “Witches Burn” at La Cartuja Stadium when a bat got caught in the hem of her dress and bit her leg.

Momsen later shared video of the incident and footage of the animal on its way to the hospital, telling fans that the dog would need to receive rabies vaccinations over the next two weeks.

“So….a rock n’ roll moment….on Wednesday in Seville while playing ‘Witches Burn’…a bat flew onto me and latched onto my leg…” Momsen wrote in an Instagram post.

“I was performing at the time and had no idea until the incredible crowd kept screaming and pointing,” she continued.

“You guys are pointing at things, and I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she told the crowd, before turning and bending down to spot a bat attached to the hem of her black-and-white lace slip dress.

“Oh my god!” Momsen yelled. She returned to the microphone and told the crowd, “I’ve got a f**king bat flying at my leg right now.”

Momsen kept his cool and remained at the microphone as staff members came to help him remove the bat.

“I must really be a witch,” she joked, as fans whistled, and the former model turned around and smiled.

Momsen’s unfazed demeanor clearly impressed the audience, with fans exclaiming, “So professional!”

“Thank you!” Momsen told her fans, as the audience applauded and cheered.

“I’m OK,” she said after crew members removed the bat.

“And Bat is fine,” she added. “He’s going to be my new friend.”

Momsen also posted footage of herself being treated at the hospital for the bite, where she can be seen wearing a black face mask and giving a thumbs up, before later lying in a hospital bed.

The Missouri native shared a video of her being bitten on the leg and a nurse administering the injection.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, rabies is a serious disease that is almost always fatal if not treated promptly. Rabies infects the central nervous system and causes symptoms such as delirium, abnormal behavior, hallucinations, hydrophobia (fear of water), insomnia, and eventually coma and death.

According to the CDC, treatment “includes human rabies immune globulin (HRIG) and four to five doses of the rabies vaccination, which should be administered as soon as possible after infection.”

Momsen began her career as a child actress and got her break in 2000 when she played Cindy Lou Who in The Grinch starring Jim Carrey.

She played Jenny Humphrey on the CW hit series Gossip Girl, but left the show after its fourth season in 2011. Momsen later told Elle magazine that she had decided to retire from acting to focus on her music career.

Momsen is the frontwoman of the band The Pretty Reckless, which she formed in 2009 with guitarist/vocalist Ben Phillips, bassist Mark Damon and drummer Jamie Perkins.

The band has released four studio albums and had seven number one singles on the US rock charts.

The Pretty Reckless and AC/DC tour will kick off in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on May 18 and finish in Dublin, Ireland on August 17.
