Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that Republican Senate candidate Larry Hogan of Maryland does not deserve the respect of any American.
Guest host Casey Hunt said, “Regarding Republican Senate candidate Larry Hogan of Maryland. Again, I’m asking this question as one of the co-chairs of the Republican Party at large and as a popular former governor of Maryland. He wrote this just before the verdict. ‘Regardless of the outcome, I ask all Americans to respect the verdict and the legal process,’ he said. That is not Republican policy at this time. In fact, he was attacked by Trump’s top advisor Chris LaCivita, who wrote, ‘Your campaign is over.’ Will the RNC endorse Larry Hogan for Senate?”
“Let me just say one thing: I don’t support what he just said. I think it’s absurd. I think it’s foolish to not speak out in the face of a trial that should never see the light of day again, that should never be brought against anybody but Donald Trump,” Trump said.
She added, “At this point, he doesn’t deserve the respect of anyone in the Republican Party, and frankly, anyone in America. If that’s how you feel, that’s very upsetting to hear.”
“So you’re going to give Maryland’s Senate seat to a Democrat and not support Larry Hogan?” Hunt asked.
“My point is, of course we want to win as a party, but that’s unfortunate. I think he should have thought it through before he said that publicly,” Trump said.
“Are you going to use Republican resources to support his candidacy?” Hunt asked.
“I’ll give you the financial details later, but I can tell you as the co-chair of the Republican Party, he should never have said that. I think it’s stupid,” Trump said.
