In explosive testimony before Congress, Dr. Anthony Fauci acknowledged that six-foot social distancing and mask-wearing guidelines for children have no scientific basis. He also acknowledged that the lab leak theory is a “likely” explanation for the origins of COVID-19.

During the interview, Fauci was asked whether there is any scientific research showing that the 6-foot social distancing guideline effectively stops the spread of the coronavirus.
“I wasn’t aware of any study that would actually be a very difficult study,” Fauci, who served as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for nearly four decades, responded.
Fauci served as the top leader of the White House coronavirus task force under former President Donald Trump and as chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden.
Also in the Congressional interview, Fauci was asked, “Do you recall looking at the studies and the data that supported wearing masks on children?”
“I might have done that,” he replied, but added, “I don’t remember specifically whether I did.”
Fauci was then asked if he had seen any scientific studies that show children who wear masks have reduced learning abilities or language and development problems.
Fauci responded, “No, but I believe there are a lot of conflicting studies, some that say there is an effect and some that say there is no effect. I think it’s still uncertain.”
During the interview, Fauci was asked whether he believed the coronavirus originated from a “lab accident” or whether a lab leak was a conspiracy theory.
“Well, it’s a possibility. I think people are seeing the conspiracy aspect. And I think we need to be open-minded and distinguish between the two possibilities: a lab leak or a natural occurrence,” Fauci said.
He added: “I’ve said in this committee that I think the evidence that I’ve seen leans my opinion towards a conspiracy theory, which is natural, but I’m still not biased. So I don’t think it’s inherently a conspiracy theory in itself, but some people start to make some crazy claims from it.”
Asked whether the origins of the COVID-19 virus might ever be known, the subcommittee responded that “it is becoming increasingly unlikely” that we will know due to a lack of cooperation from the Chinese government.
The release of the records comes just days before Fauci is scheduled to testify at his first hearing since retirement in December 2022.
Fauci is scheduled to testify before the House Select COVID Subcommittee on Monday.
Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio), chairman of the subcommittee, said: statement“Retirement from public office does not absolve Dr. Fauci from accountability to the American people. On June 3, the American people will have the opportunity to hear directly from Dr. Fauci about his role in overseeing our nation’s pandemic response, crafting pandemic-era policy, and promoting his own questionable narrative about the origins of COVID-19.”
