A thick chain necklace likely saved a Colorado man’s life by stopping a bullet from penetrating his neck, police said in a case they called “unbelievable.”
Police in Commerce City, a Denver suburb, said a braided metal necklace was all that stood between the crafter and the man who was shot Tuesday after an argument with another man.
Police said about a half-inch of chain around the man’s neck stopped the .22-caliber bullet in its tracks, leaving the victim with only minor puncture wounds.
“They’ll say he really averted the crisis, but in reality he was the one who fired the bullets,” police said. He said in a Facebook post.
The company added that “the necklace is likely the only reason the shooting victim we responded to yesterday is still alive.”
The shooter, whose identity has not been released, was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder.
Police noted that although the necklace was silver in color, it was likely not pure silver as silver is a soft metal and would not have been able to stop a bullet.
“You might want to think twice before buying a fake,” the policeman quipped.
