According to Oklahoma State Police, a group of teenagers Attacking a homeless man It was so bad that it nearly killed him, with some even live-streaming the incident on social media.
According to police, the horrific assault happened on May 26 outside a 7-Eleven gas station near Kentucky Avenue and Southwest 59th Street in Oklahoma City.
“He was pretty seriously injured, he suffered some pretty significant trauma.”
Surveillance footage obtained by police shows people in a car yelling at homeless man Tillman Shannon, who they say felt threatened and tried to run away, but the teens chased him.
Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Dillon Quirke said the video shows a group of nine young men brutally beating Shannon to the ground near a trash can outside the store.
The girls allegedly called him the N-word, and at least one of them live-streamed the attack on her Instagram account, later identified as Veronica Benavente, police said.
According to an arrest affidavit, Benavente told Shannon, “We’re kids,” and also used racial slurs and slurs.
One of the most devastating injuries Shannon suffered was when a teenage boy grabbed his colostomy bag and pulled it from his body, resulting in his intestines being pulled out.
“What’s wrong with your stomach?” the teenager reportedly yelled at the man.
“He was pretty seriously injured, he had some pretty significant trauma,” Sergeant Quirke said.
Shannon was taken to OU Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries and is expected to survive.
Police said Benavente and 18-year-old Eric Villagomez were arrested for their alleged involvement in the assault. Investigators said three of the juvenile suspects have been located, but the other four are still missing.
“That sounds really scary.”
Residents in the area say gang problems have gotten worse recently.
“It’s horrible,” Mike Martin told KFOR-TV.
“It’s not that common, but there are a lot of gangs around here,” he added. “Just recently I saw some grade-school kids with bandanas in front of my house and I was like, ‘What are you guys doing?’ They were yelling stuff and acting tough.”
“It’s really scary,” said Trisha Tyler, who has lived in the area for five years. “This area isn’t usually that dangerous.”
