A couple was attacked on a date in Chicago’s Streetersville neighborhood on Friday.
The couple was walking down the street near Grand Avenue and McClurg Court on Friday evening when they were surrounded by a large group of young people. FOX 32 Chicago reported.
The woman, who gave her name as Nina, told media she was repeatedly kicked, stomped and punched, and that she was two weeks pregnant at the time of the incident and later learned she had lost the baby, according to FOX 32.
“We believe in faith and it’s not what’s supposed to happen, so we don’t know why this happened to us,” Nina said.

Nina shared a photo of her injury. FOX 32 andImages showed the assault resulted in several strands of her hair being pulled out and injuries to her eye.
Her husband was also violently attacked by the group and was held down during the assault, she told FOX 32, where the teens used pepper spray and kicked her in the stomach.

The victim said the attack was not a robbery.
“They didn’t steal anything. They said, ‘These streets are ours. They belong to us. You can’t walk around here.’ I was wearing a nice dress and high heels. I was on a date with my husband and they dragged my dress along the ground and said, ‘These streets are ours. You can’t walk around here hopping around in your little dress.’ They were saying things that didn’t make any sense to me because they don’t know me personally,” Nina said.

Officers responded to the scene at 9:17 p.m. after receiving a report of an assault. Chicago Police say a 14-year-old male assailant punched a 40-year-old male victim in the head, and a 17-year-old female assailant pulled the female victim’s hair. The victims’ ages have not been released.
Police said the victim was treated at the scene but refused further medical attention. The two juveniles were taken into custody and each charged with misdemeanor assault.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to questions about whether the suspects would face additional charges.

Crime remains a serious problem in Chicago. Robbery, auto theft, aggravated assault and larceny are up from last year, according to the Chicago Police Department. Crime Data through June 2. However, compared to this time in 2023, murders, thefts and sexual assaults are down.
The city saw a bloody shooting over the Memorial Day weekend, with 41 people shot and killed. 9 people died, This includes a 5-year-old girl.
