Louisiana deputy makes ‘fowl’ discovery in child’s backpack after boy found safe

A Louisiana boy who was reported missing last week has been found safe and sound with “filthy items” inside his backpack.

“STORY TIME!” the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page on Friday, May 31.

“Everyone, come join us for a little Friday morning fun story,” the sheriff’s office said in the post.

That morning, “a young man decided to leave home and embark on an adventure in search of a new life,” the agency said. “Let’s be honest, we’ve all had similar experiences at some point in our youth.”

A sheriff’s deputy quickly found the child, according to the post, but the child’s name, age or location were not identified by the sheriff’s office.

“But there was an unexpected twist,” the article read. “Also riding along was a rooster, hiding in the child’s backpack!”

“Yes, that is correct. Ole Foghorn was slightly shaken up but unharmed,” the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

The name comes from the Looney Tunes character Foghorn Leghorn.

The Facebook post included a photo of a large chicken stuffed into a Pokémon-themed backpack.

“There’s a bit of a mystery remaining.”

While the story may have seemed funny to some online, the post said there was more to it than that.

“So here’s the problem: the rooster does not belong to the boy and it remains a mystery as to how the boy got his hands on it,” the office said.

“So we have a bit of a mystery, and, well, Rooster, The post read, accompanied by an emoji of a man shrugging and a rooster.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the rooster to contact them.

The rooster, on the other hand, seems to be doing well.

“Ole Foghorn is currently being held in Paterson Animal Control’s Witness Protection Program, but we believe he would like to return home where he belongs,” the sheriff’s office said.

The post ends with the hashtags “#LostAndFound,” “#RoosterMystery,” “#CommunityHelp,” “#AnyoneMissingARooster” and “#WhatAFridayThisHasBeenAlready.”

The post has been shared more than 250 times, with many people poking fun at the absurdity of the situation and pointing out important details the sheriff’s office missed.

“The problem is it’s a hen, not a rooster,” wrote one Facebook user, with others agreeing.
