In the Montana Senate election, Navy SEAL Tim Sheehy defeated three other candidates to win the Republican nomination, unseating the state’s Democratic Senator Jon Tester.
With strong support from the Legislature’s conservative leadership, Sheehy became the Republican candidate challenging a three-term Democratic candidate and won the nomination in Tuesday’s primary.
“America is at a crossroads and we need a new generation of leadership to save our country. Joe Biden and Jon Tester’s reckless policies have led to skyrocketing food, housing and energy prices and an open border that is inundated with illegal immigrants, drugs and crime,” Sheehy said in a statement after the election results were announced.

“As a Navy SEAL, I have always put country before myself. I am running for the United States Senate to end Joe Biden and Jon Tester’s inflation, close the border, protect our children’s future, and put America First! I am humbled and honored by all the support, and look forward to seeing the largest recipient of lobbyist money and pro-Biden liberal, Jon Tester, finally retire,” he continued.

A Purple Heart recipient, the conservative has been endorsed by Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump, who called him an “American hero.”

“I love Montana!” Trump said in a post on his Truth social account. “Tim Sheehy is an American hero and a very successful businessman from the great state of Montana. He is strongly endorsed by our great NRSC Chairman Steve Daines and the many other patriotic Senators and Republicans who have endorsed our Make America Great Again campaign!”

Republicans are eyeing the Big Sky state as one of their best chances to regain control of the Senate, with Tester, a Democrat, seeking to retain his seat in the Republican-leaning state for a fourth term.
Tester describes himself as a moderate in the Senate, but Sheehy has accused him of changing his position in an election year.
“You know, five years out of six he’s a die-hard liberal, a staunch progressive, and he votes in lockstep with Schumer, Biden and every other progressive in the country,” Seay told Fox in November, “and then in an election year he goes back to the center and behaves like a moderate.”

Sheehy was quickly endorsed by Senators Steve Daines (R-MT), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Cindy Hyde Smith (R-MS), Ted Budd (R-OK), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and John Barrasso (R-WY) to be the Republican candidate to face Tester in the November election.
