Angel Reese Ejected for ‘Disrespectfully Addressing an Official’

Angel Reese says she’s good at playing the “bad guy,” and so far, that’s exactly what she’s doing.

Reese, a former LSU star and current Chicago Sky forward, was ejected during the fourth quarter of an 88-75 loss to the New York Liberty after getting into an argument with a referee after receiving his second technical foul of the game.

Rees seemed perplexed by his ejection.

“I tried to get an explanation but couldn’t get one” from Weatherspoon Said “At this point we don’t know what happened,” he told reporters.

According to referee Major Forsberg, Rees was ejected after “using disrespectful language” at the umpire and then “waving his hand to indicate he was leaving.”

Reese’s teammate, Marina Mabry, attributed the incident to inexperience: “She got two technical fouls and said something to the ref. He thought the call was correct and it stood. For us as young players in the WNBA, calm is the most important thing. You need to know the refs and how they react to things.”

Reese recently claimed that the WNBA’s ratings surge was due not just to Kaitlyn Clark, but to her as well.

“People come to the game just for one game. Celebrities come to the game. Arenas are sold out. Look at that. I take on that role. I take on the role of the bad guy. And I will continue to take on that role and continue to be the bad guy to my teammates. I will go down in history, if that’s what I want it to be. When we look back 20 years from now, we’ll see that the reason we watch women’s basketball isn’t just because of one person, it’s also because of me. I want people to understand that.”

Since making that speech, Reese has been fined, shot 3-of-12 from the floor and been ejected.
