Joe Biden just issued an executive order that “temporarily blocks migrants from seeking asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border.”
Most of the media is reporting as if Biden is actually going to close the border. Sara Gonzalez Spot it right away.
“If we have the capacity to close the border, we can close the border now, and we don’t have to wait until we get to a seven-day average of 2,500 crossings per day. We don’t have to wait that long,” Gonzalez said.
“But Joe Biden is saying, ‘No, no, it doesn’t matter, I’m going to abuse my power and issue an executive order to close the border only when we reach the 2,500 threshold, and then I’m going to reopen the border when we get below an average of 1,500 a day for seven consecutive days,'” she added.
“It’s almost as if they don’t want a solution,” Eric July agreed, “which is why you’re seeing this cat-and-mouse game.”
Gonzalez called their actions “gaslighting” before hearing what Biden will say about the executive order.
“I’m here today to do what Republicans in Congress refuse to do: take the steps necessary to secure our border. Four months ago, after weeks of intense negotiations between my staff, Democrats and Republicans, we reached a very clear bipartisan agreement,” Biden said.
“It was the strongest border security deal in decades, and then Republicans in Congress, some by no means all of them, abandoned it. Why? Because Donald Trump told them to. He told them he wasn’t going to fix the problem, and he wanted to use this deal to attack me, as many of you have widely reported.”
“This is a cynical, deeply cynical political move and a complete disservice to the American people who want to repair our border, not weaponize it,” he concluded.
Gonzales couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“Joe Biden is a guy who not only did nothing and did nothing on the border for four years, but reversed every single policy that Trump had in place that worked.”
