COVID vaccines may be partly responsible for an “unprecedented” increase in excess deaths in the United States and other Western countries in the three years since the pandemic began, according to a new study.

Scientists from the Vrije Universiteit in the Netherlands analysed mortality data from 47 Western countries and found that excess mortality rates have “remained high” since 2020, despite the widespread rollout of COVID-19 vaccines and various containment measures.
The researchers said the trend “raises serious concerns” and called on government leaders to “thoroughly investigate the underlying causes of the persistent excess deaths,” according to the study published Monday. BMJ Public Health.
writing BMJ Public Health“COVID-19 vaccines are offered to protect the general public from morbidity and mortality due to COVID-19, but suspicious adverse events have also been recorded,” the authors, from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, said in a statement.
“Both medical professionals and members of the public have reported serious injuries and deaths following vaccination to various official databases in Western countries.”
They added: “During the pandemic, politicians and the media stressed every day that every COVID-19 death matters, and that every life must be protected through containment measures and COVID-19 vaccines. The same morality should apply in the aftermath of the pandemic.”
Additionally, the study found that there have been more than 3 million excess deaths across the United States, Australia and Europe since 2020.
More than 1 million of these excess deaths occurred in 2020, at the peak of the pandemic, according to the study.
But the researchers noted that the numbers are set to remain high, reaching 1.2 million in 2021 and 800,000 in 2022.
The researchers added that serious side effects of the vaccine have been documented, including ischemic stroke, acute coronary syndrome and cerebral hemorrhage.
“This commonality may hinder clinical suspicion and, consequently, detection of a vaccine side effect,” the study states.
