Chiefs’ BJ Thompson ‘unconscious’ but ‘stable’ after scary episode

Kansas City Chiefs defensive end B.J. Thompson is “still unconscious” but “stable” following a frightening medical episode in which he suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting on Thursday.

“BJ remains unconscious at this time but is stable with good vital signs and the family asks for your continued prayers,” Thompson’s agent, Chris Turnage, said in a statement Thursday night. To Tom Pelissero of NFL Network:.

The Chiefs canceled team activities on Thursday after Thompson’s injury and medical personnel responded quickly.

Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo spoke briefly about the matter while taking part in a charity softball game later in the day.

“Before I say anything, I’m thinking about BJ right now,” Spagnolo said. According to Fox 4 KC.

“It was scary. I think everyone was a little scared, and I was too. But I prayed a lot. [VP of sports medicine and performance] Rick [Burkholder] And his staff did a great job.”

Practice resumes on Friday with head coach Andy Reid scheduled to speak.

Thompson, 25, a fifth-round pick (166th overall) out of Stephen F. Austin State University, will begin his NFL career in 2023 and appeared in one game his rookie year, a Week 18 win over the Chargers.

He recorded two tackles in the 13-12 victory.

Thompson went on to lead the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory over the 49ers on February 11.

“Super Bowl champions… I love the sound of that,” Thompson wrote on Instagram after the Chiefs beat the 49ers 25-22 in overtime.

Thompson and the Chiefs visited the White House last week to celebrate their third Super Bowl victory in five seasons.

“If you put it up in the White House, you’ll feel like you’re the president.” He wrote on Saturday On Instagram.

The Chiefs begin mandatory minicamp next week before the start of training camp later this summer.

The reigning Super Bowl champions will host the Ravens in Week 1 on September 5, looking to win their third consecutive championship.
