President Biden’s reelection campaign ran an ad criticizing former President Trump’s comments about veterans during the week of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings.
“Trump’s thoughts” includes quotes from Trump making negative comments about military personnel, some of which he has denied since they were first reported.
The video highlights a point where Trump reportedly called American veterans buried in France “losers” and “idiots” in 2018. Biden is scheduled to visit the same cemetery in France on Sunday.
Trump previously denied making the “idiot” comment, but his former chief of staff, John Kelly, later confirmed it.
They point out that the video shows Trump repeatedly mocking then-Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who was a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War.
Trump has also reportedly told a war widow that her husband “knew what he stood for”, a comment he denied making in 2017.
Biden campaign communications director Michael Tyler said in a statement that the video shows the difference between Biden and Trump’s treatment of veterans and military personnel.
“The choice in November is clear: Donald Trump has no respect for our service members, their families or the freedoms that so many of them made the ultimate sacrifice to protect,” Tyler said. “As the son of a military man, President Biden values and respects our troops and their families. President Biden will continue to provide veterans with the health care and benefits they need and deserve. Donald Trump just doesn’t care.”
Trump spokesman Steven Chang blasted Biden for the video, saying then-Vice President He called the military “a bunch of stupid bastards.” Spotted during a speech at a military base Watch the clock During the dignified transfer of those killed in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing.
“Joe Biden has belittled U.S. troops, calling them ‘stupid bastards,’ demonstrated a lack of empathy by repeatedly checking his watch during a solemn ceremony for soldiers killed in the devastating Afghanistan withdrawal, and been criticized by Gold Star families for his lack of respect. In fact, under the Biden administration, America has become weaker and more vulnerable on the world stage,” Chang said.
The Biden campaign released an ad on Thursday featuring three military veterans who slam Trump as a “draft dodger” and say he is unfit to be commander in chief.
The two videos were released as Biden was in France for the anniversary of the Normandy landings. He made the remarks on Thursday and Friday, subtly criticizing Trump’s “America First” policies and “Make America Great Again” slogan.
