Bizarre choice of players, merch used to promote Mets’ London games

That’s not really surprising.

As the Mets and Phillies prepare to meet back-to-back this week as part of the London Series, an eagle-eyed Mets fan’s X-post revealed an unusual advertisement for the event.

A poster outside the New Era Carnaby store in London advertised the series, which features an unlikely trio of Mets relief pitchers: Reid Garrett, Adam Ottavino and Jake Reid.

While Garrett and Ottavino are both on the Mets’ active roster, the same cannot be said for Reed.

Reed has not pitched for the Mets since the 2022 season, posting a dismal 8.18 ERA in just nine appearances with the team.

Reed appeared in nine games for the Mets over the 2021-22 season and posted a terrible 8.18 ERA. NY Post

The 31-year-old right-hander is a free agent whose most recent MLB appearance was with the Dodgers last season.

He pitched 2/3 innings and allowed six runs in his only appearance of the season.

Even the selection of Garrett and Ottavino was panned, despite the Mets having All-Stars Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz on the roster.

In contrast, the promotional posters in the store Introducing the Phillies All-Stars Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber.

When X-user Mets Jr. returned to the store the next day, the display had already been removed, ending Reed’s Mets nostalgia moment.

The user also posted that Hawaiian shirts with both the Mets and Phillies team logos were for sale.

Some X users were not too pleased that the rivals were paired together in the same outfit.

“It’s a war crime.” One user said:.

“It’s blasphemy! These logos should never go together.” Another person said.

The London Series will kick off at 1:10 p.m. ET on Saturday with left-hander Sean Manea of the Mets facing left-hander Suarez of the Rangers.
