Caitlin Clark has been speaking out publicly and rightly since being cut from the U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball Team, saying she’s happy for her teammates and supports them in their success.
However, her private comments tell a different story.
Indiana Fever coach Christy Sides told reporters on Sunday that Clark told her after learning she missed out on the roster. “Coach, they woke up a monster,” Sides reportedly said.

Clarke’s on-court play since her Olympic appearance was announced suggests she is ready to unleash the monster.
On Friday night, she scored 30 points in 39 minutes and made seven 3-pointers, tying a rookie record. The game took place before the U.S. national team rosters were released. It’s entirely possible that Clark found out through a trusted source that she had been left off the national team roster and wanted to make a statement before the world found out over the weekend.

Either way, if proving something to her detractors and hostile WNBA veterans wasn’t enough motivation, Clark now has even more fuel to burn as she continues her record-breaking rookie season.
