Trygve Hammer wins Democratic congressional primary in North Dakota

The Associated Press is projecting Trygve Hammer to win North Dakota’s single-district Democratic primary for House of Representatives.

Hammer, a former teacher and military veteran, was running against Roland Reimers in the Democratic nomination race to replace Republican Rep. Kelly Armstrong.

Armstrong is running for the Republican gubernatorial nomination instead of seeking re-election to the House of Representatives after Republican Governor Doug Burgum decided not to seek re-election to a third term as governor.

Burgum ran unsuccessfully for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination and then withdrew from the race late last year, endorsing former President Trump a few weeks later, but is considered a leading candidate to be Trump’s running mate.
