Nicki Minaj Reveals Shift in Political Support

Nicki Minaj recently shared her political journey in an interview, explaining how her disillusionment with the Democratic Party transformed her into a supporter of President Donald Trump. This change, she noted, stemmed from her growing dissatisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly with vaccine mandates andPublic health strategies endorsed by Governor Gavin Newsom and the former Obama administration.

Minaj expressed that the “cancel culture” and regulatory measures from left-leaning politicians felt excessive, ultimately distancing her from the party she once backed. She stated that the actions of Newsom and Obama “catapulted” her into a more visible role within the MAGA movement.

In January, she declared herself as Trump’s “biggest fan” at an event focused on child retirement savings accounts. Beyond vocal support, Minaj committed substantial funds—hundreds of thousands of dollars—to help establish these accounts for fans, emphasizing that her support wasn’t a new phenomenon. It was, in fact, a long-held viewpoint in an industry that typically favors progressive politics.

“I already felt that way about him, but I just didn’t have the courage to act that way in public,” she noted, reflecting on the music industry’s implicit expectation of Democratic loyalty.

Even prior to endorsing Trump, Minaj often subverted expectations with her music. An earlier example includes her poem about Lil Wayne’s track “Mercy,” where she subtly included political commentary that diverged from the mainstream narrative, hinting at her desire to challenge industry norms.

“I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney. These lazy people are messing up the economy,” she rapped at one point.

Her public alignment with Trump solidified a longstanding personal stance, especially during the 2024 election cycle. This shift was influenced by President Obama’s comments targeting voters who might dismiss Kamala Harris, which Minaj found troubling.

“I saw a lot of videos of black men saying they didn’t like the way they felt about President Obama’s speech,” Minaj recalled, mentioning their sense of exclusion.

Her disappointment with Democratic leaders also arose from feelings of neglect during personal crises. After a series of frightening incidents at her home, Minaj reached out to Newsom’s office multiple times for help but received no response.

“He completely ignored me,” she said. “All the money I spent was in taxes.”

Things took a different turn when Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) stepped in after Minaj experienced threats. Luna facilitated a connection between Minaj and federal law enforcement, even organizing a professional security team for her protection.

“I was shocked,” Minaj reflected on Luna’s support. “I had never seen anyone in politics treat me like that.”
