Democratic lawmakers criticized Republican lawmakers for being hypocritical for not being convinced by the conviction of President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, on federal firearms charges on Tuesday.
“My Republican friends have been telling me at length that Democrats have weaponized the campaign,” said Rep. Jim McGovern, a Massachusetts Democrat. [Department of Justice]But their conspiracy theories fell apart this morning when the president’s son, Hunter Biden, was found guilty in federal court on three gun-related charges.”
“The division here is astonishing, and it’s a reminder that one party remains loyal to the rule of law and the other party does not. That’s it,” McGovern added.

Asked whether the ruling undermines Republican arguments that the justice system is two-tiered, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) told Fox News: “How can you make that argument when the justice system just ruled on the son of the president of the United States?”

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) pointed out the differences between the two parties following the convictions of former President Trump in New York and former President Biden in Delaware.
“Compare and contrast the difference between the Republican and Democratic responses,” he said. “Republicans are attacking our entire judicial system and the rule of law because they don’t like the outcome of a case.”

But after Hunter Biden’s verdict, “you haven’t heard a single Democrat complain about fraud,” he said.
Senator Durbin also spoke about addiction and the toll it has on Americans. “There are thousands of American families who have been devastated by addiction,” the Illinois senator said.

“Now this is impacting the First Family of the United States. I know the president. This means a lot to him personally because of the love he has for his son. He and his wife, Jill, have weathered this storm for many years. Their hearts are certainly broken,” he added.
In a statement after his son’s conviction, President Biden noted his son’s struggle with drug addiction and said how proud he was of Hunter as a father.
“I accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers his appeal. Jill and I will always support Hunter and the remaining family with our love and support, no matter what,” he said.
