Former Trump adviser says he would ‘love’ to see Trump pledge to pardon Hunter Biden

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign adviser David Urban suggested the former president pledge to pardon Hunter Biden, who was convicted on federal firearms charges on Tuesday.

“Look, what I’d like to see happen is for President Trump to make a statement saying, ‘If Hunter Biden participates in an inpatient or outpatient sobriety program, appears in court and remains sober, I will pardon him,'” Urban said on CNN’s “Out Front with Erin Burnett.”

“I’m glad President Trump would say that. It would be a generous offer on his part, a show of humanity and it would turn the tables on the Democrats,” he added.

Urban is a CNN commentator who served as a senior adviser to the Trump campaign in 2016. He has previously spoken out about the 2024 presidential election, saying last year that the first Republican presidential debate was a “total disaster.”

President Biden’s son was convicted by a jury of Delaware residents on Tuesday of three felony counts stemming from a gun purchase six years ago. Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison and a $750,000 fine, although first-time offenders rarely receive the maximum sentence.

In a statement after the verdict this week, Biden said he accepted the outcome of his son’s case and stressed his love and support for him, even as he has repeatedly said he would not pardon him.

The White House on Wednesday did not rule out whether Biden would commute his son’s sentence.

Regarding the possibility of a commutation, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said, “I have not spoken to the president about this matter since the verdict was announced, and as you all know, a sentence has not even been scheduled yet.”

“The president was asked specifically about the pardon and about the trial and he answered very clearly and candidly. As you know, the sentence has not yet been scheduled. I don’t know anything beyond what the president has said. The president has been very clear on this matter,” she added.
