Grimmas’ first pitch was a “McGreat,” and the fans had a blast with it.
McDonald’s character, 53, threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Mets’ 10-4 victory over the Marlins on Wednesday at Citi Field.
Grimace also did it in style, wearing his team’s City Connect hat.
That day was also a special one: it was Grimace’s birthday.
This lap blanket was relatively good for wearing with my costume in 70 degree weather in Queens.
Certainly, it was a step above 50 Cent’s awful first pitch at Citi Field a decade ago.
The rapper’s throw may be the worst ceremonial throw of all time.
Grimas’ pitch may have been much better, or at least comparable, to recent pitches such as those made by Stephen A. Smith when he threw the first pitch against the Yankees last September.
He couldn’t even reach home plate, he couldn’t get close.
Fans loved it, but for all the wrong reasons.
Smith tried to pass off the errant pitch as a “changeup.”
Victor Wembanyama also scored the opening run in a Yankees-Marlins game last summer, just before being drafted by the Spurs, but his shot was way off target.
After Wednesday’s throw-in, Grimas enjoyed some fun with the crowd. Throw away the T-shirt.
Grimas posed with the Met family on the field and received an honorary jersey with his name engraved on it.
After the game, the Mets’ X account praised Grimmas, calling the mascot an “icon.”
Considering the fact that this giant purple blob also had a giant mitt and pitched the ball pretty close to home plate, it must have been a pretty good birthday at the very least.
Especially when compared to the past.
Grimas will sleep well tonight knowing that his birthday trip to Citi Field was a success for the Mets as well.
