Britain’s future queen, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, said she is continuing her chemotherapy treatment but will make her first public appearance since Christmas at this weekend’s King’s Birthday Parade.
In her first public statement since March, Kate said she plans to gradually return to royal duties over the summer. The Duchess, who is married to Prince William, who will be the next King by royal tradition, was last seen in public on Christmas Day 2023.

Queen Elizabeth, normally one of the most active members of the royal family, had been absent from public view for long periods of time, sparking speculation until it was announced in mid-January that she was recovering from abdominal surgery for an unexplained health issue, not cancer. The operation was so serious that it was thought she would not be able to return to public view until Easter.
Speculation was rampant again until late March, when the Duchess announced that tests during her first surgery had indeed revealed she had cancer and would not be returning to royal duties while she underwent treatment.
In a statement from Kensington Palace on Friday night, the princess gave the first full update on her condition in months, writing that she was “recovering well but, as anyone undergoing chemotherapy knows, there are good days and bad days.”
Her treatment “is ongoing and will continue for several more months”, but she said she still hopes to take part in some engagements over the summer, “but is aware that she is not out of the woods yet”.
Though she has “had good days and bad days,” Kate said she is looking forward to taking part in this weekend’s Trooping the Colour, an annual parade celebrating King Charles III’s birthday. A key event in the royal calendar, the annual parade sees Britain’s elite fighting troops dressed in full combat fatigues and parade through London.
