Kevin Costner says ‘Yellowstone’ return isn’t out of the cards: ‘I would go back’

Kevin Costner has his eye on Horizon but hasn’t ruled out a return to Yellowstone.

The Academy Award-winning actor admitted that John Dutton will likely remain a part of him in the future, despite his special past with Taylor Sheridan.

Ahead of the release of the first installment of “Horizon: An American Saga,” CBS Sunday Morning I asked Costner if he’d like to return to “Yellowstone.”

“Yes, if I like the story and how it plays out, I’d do it again,” Costner admitted.

He also clarified that he didn’t need to leave the show to complete the film Horizon.

“I did everything I was contracted to do on ‘Yellowstone,'” Costner said.

“Along the way, they wanted to change it,” he said of the “Yellowstone” filming process. “They wanted to do 5A and 5B, so that affected ‘Horizon.’ I was going to do my movie ‘Horizon,’ leave that show, do my movie, and then do B.”

He added, “We used to do one show a year, but now we’re doing two.”

Costner explained that he was offered $24 million to appear in seasons five, six and seven of “Yellowstone” before the schedule fell through. The show was cancelled.

“It’ll probably end up in court,” Costner said when asked by his ex-wife’s lawyers if he received any compensation from the most recent season of “Yellowstone.”

He settled his divorce from Baumgartner and has since poured all his time, money and effort into “Horizon,” which opens in theaters on June 28. The second part of the post-Civil War drama hits theaters less than a month later, on August 16.

“I’m OK. I’m like a wagon going west,” Costner told CBS. “I’ve encountered everything you can imagine. I have to hold on to the rope because there’s a promise that I have to give the audience something. I want the audience to go west.”

“These towns didn’t just pop up like mushrooms. They were fought for,” Costner said. “These lands were fought for and always ended ugly for the Native Americans. So these are themes. I’m embarrassed by it, ashamed of how it happened, but I’m not afraid to talk about it. I love it.”

I’m not like that. I just really believe in the idea of ​​what this can lead to, so I’m just going to keep pushing it.”
