Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the Supreme Court has become “blatantly corrupt and blatantly politicized.”
Host Jake Tapper said, “At a fundraiser in Hollywood last night, or in LA last night, President Biden made a reference to the upside-down flag that Justice Martha Alito had flown outside her home. He said the Supreme Court has never been more out of balance than it is today. There are many other similar comments. Is it appropriate for the President to criticize the Supreme Court in this way?”
Murphy said, “Yes, absolutely. I mean, I think there is a crisis on the court, particularly with Justice Alito and Justice Thomas. What Justice Thomas is engaging in is just fraud, right? Outside powerful politicians who have an absolute vested interest in the politics and business of the court are bribing judges. Justice Alito has openly demonstrated his involvement in political campaigns in public.”
“I think it’s irresponsible for the president not to speak out about the fact that this Supreme Court has become so blatantly corrupt and so blatantly political. That’s on the American people to address that issue in this election, and for Congress to establish a code of conduct, a code of ethics for this Supreme Court before it’s too late.”
