Talal Patel, the Democratic candidate for Fort Bend, Texas’ 3rd Congressional District Commissioner, was arrested and charged with online impersonation and identity fraud for allegedly sending fake hate messages to himself on social media.
The Texas Rangers arrested Patel after he allegedly sent racist and derogatory comments to them over a period of months. Impersonation According to Fox News, he is “a supporter of incumbent Republican Committeeman Andy Myers.”
“According to Patel’s arrest records, the investigation began in October 2023 after Myers asked authorities to investigate those responsible for the harsh comments made against Patel,” the outlet noted.
Patel even went so far as to use real images of Fort Bend residents as profile pictures for hateful commenters without their consent.
In one Facebook post, Patel wrote: Alleged Trump told his supporters that the hateful comments were emblematic of “deep, false fears” within the Republican Party.
“As a Democratic candidate for county commissioner, I will always accept criticism about my policies and issue stances,” Patel said, “but when supporters of my Republican opponent decide to hurl racist, anti-immigrant, Hinduphobic or other offensive insults at my family, my faith community, my colleagues and me, that has crossed the line.”
Fort Bend County Republican Party Chairman Bobby Eberle called Patel’s alleged actions “deeply concerning.”
“Republicans and Democrats alike, all who value political integrity and accountability should unequivocally condemn these tactics,” Eberle said in a statement. “This is not a partisan issue, and the good people of Fort Bend County should be able to trust that any allegations made are sincere.”
“The residents of Fort Bend County deserve better leadership than someone who creates fake accounts for political gain and fabricates racist attacks in an attempt to pit neighbors against each other,” he added.
