A group of New Yorkers who recognized a suspect in the horrific rape of a 13-year-old girl were able to subdue him and hold him until police arrived around 1 a.m. Tuesday, cell phone footage showed.
Police said 25-year-old Christian Giovanny Inga Landy, from Ecuador, entered the country illegally in 2021 near Eagle Pass, Texas.
Police say that after being arrested in Texas and committing several other offenses in New York City, he cornered two 13-year-old girls in a Queens park, forced them into the woods at knifepoint, bound one of their wrists with shoelaces and raped her. He allegedly stole the girls’ cellphones and ordered them to remain there for 20 minutes while he escaped.

With the victim’s help, police released a sketch of the suspect, after a local resident spotted him on security camera footage, which police also released.
Authorities said a group of men spotted him at a deli near Corona, attacked him and held him until police arrived.

“Everybody knew who we were looking for,” said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney, “We had a tip coming in that actually pointed to the name of the perpetrator. Everybody knew who it was. They’d seen him on the street.”
“Body camera footage showed at least 10 neighbors trying to do the right thing,” Kenney added.
A local man named Jeffrey Flores was one of the first people to spot him when he was captured, he said. New York Post.
“I’ve seen him a few times. He comes here to buy things,” he told the paper outside the deli where the raid took place. “I waited for him. I waited all day to see if he would come. He came at night.”

Inga Lundy tried to fight off the good Samaritan, who had her legs tied with a belt to stop her from escaping, but police said she sustained minor injuries and was treated for them.
“He tried to fight back,” added Flores, who has two sisters and a soon-to-be-born daughter. “He tried to run for his life but he couldn’t. He admitted it. He was like, ‘Okay, okay, okay. Don’t hit me, don’t hit me.'”
attack The incident happened Thursday at Kissena Park, about three miles from Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, and near the site of the 1964 World’s Fair and U.S. Open. The victim also attended school in the neighborhood.

Police said the suspect is a Hispanic man in his 20s who wears braces and has a tattoo of a horned animal with red eyes on his chest.
Video and photos taken at the time of his capture show him with a prominent tattoo over his heart.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon on a slew of charges including rape, kidnapping and other felonies.
As police escorted him from the 112th Precinct building and took him to court, bystanders could be heard yelling “bastard” as he walked with his head bowed.

The immigrant had a history of minor criminal offenses, including not paying subway fares and drinking in public. Police said he had also been involved in a domestic violence incident, but was not charged, and it was unclear how he was arrested in Texas.
“Despite the City Council’s opposition, cracking down on petty crimes is important,” Giacalone said, “not only does it act as a deterrent to future crimes, but it also creates an opportunity for police to gather intelligence and pursue those who commit violent crimes like the ones we just saw.”

He said that under the previous administration, fare-evaders were arrested and taken to police stations where they were fingerprinted, which often helped police solve more serious crimes.
