President Biden is boosting his campaign coffers thanks to help from the Clintons.

Biden raised $8.1 million at the fundraiser, which also featured former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was the Democratic Party’s standard-bearer in 2016, according to his 2024 reelection campaign.

The fundraiser took place in McLean, Virginia, an upscale suburb of the nation’s capital, at the home of former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, a longtime friend and adviser to the Clintons.

Acclaimed author John Grisham, known for his best-selling legal thrillers, also attended the event.

In his comments at the fundraiser, Biden criticized former President Trump, his Republican opponent in the 2024 re-election race.

The president again called Trump a “convicted felon,” noting that last month Trump was convicted of 34 felonies in the first criminal trial of a former and current president in U.S. history.

“This year will be about democracy,” Biden emphasized.

The fundraiser came three days after Biden set a new Democratic fundraising record, raising more than $30 million at a star-studded Los Angeles fundraiser that included former President Barack Obama, Hollywood heavyweights George Clooney and Julia Roberts and late-night TV talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

The Biden campaign highlighted that a fundraiser in Northern Virginia on Tuesday, a gala on Saturday and a California fundraiser headlined by first lady Jill Biden last Friday raised more than $40 million in total.

Biden leads Trump in total fundraising, but the former president is working to close the gap. In April, the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee outraised the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee for the first time.

The Trump campaign announced a week and a half ago that it and the Republican National Committee raised a staggering $141 million in May, fueled in part by former President Trump’s recently concluded criminal conviction. The Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee have yet to release fundraising figures for June.

Trump’s team also boasted that they raised about $27.5 million at fundraisers for the former president in California and Nevada last week.
