President Biden leads former President Trump by 2 points in national polls Published by Fox News On Wednesday, they took the lead for the first time since last October.
Fifty percent of respondents said they would vote for Biden in November, while 48% said they would support Trump — a three-point increase for Biden since a Fox News poll last month gave Trump a one-point lead.
Wednesday’s poll showed Biden’s approval rating topping 50 percent for the first time this election cycle, putting him ahead of Trump in a Fox poll for the first time since October 2023.
When third-party candidates are included, Biden leads Trump by one point, 43 to 42. Independents Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West received 10 percent and 2 percent support, respectively, while Green Party candidate Jill Stein received 2 percent. A May poll of the candidates gave Trump a 3-point lead.
The poll could indicate the impact of Trump’s felony conviction earlier this month, as overall polling has since shown Biden catching up to, and at times surpassing, the former president.
Biden leads Trump by nine points among independents, one of the most important demographics in the race, an 11-point shift from May, when Biden led Trump by two points among independents.
“The underlying demographic trends that have defined the race remain intact,” said Daron Shaw, the Republican pollster who conducted the survey. “Biden has seen modest gains in support among women and older voters, and he has maintained his support among younger voters and African-Americans, even as he has seen larger declines from 2020.”
Respondents also had a more positive view of the economy than last month: Nearly a third of respondents, 32%, said they had a very good or good feeling about the economy, the highest level of Biden’s term.
Despite this, a majority of respondents, 56 percent, still had a pessimistic outlook for the economy.
Overall, Biden’s job approval rating was 45 percent, according to the poll.
The Fox News poll surveyed about 1,100 voters nationwide and had a margin of error of about 3 percentage points.
