Bizarre, broad-daylight confrontation ends with male shooting female dead — but female’s girlfriend charged with murder

A bizarre confrontation in broad daylight in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Wednesday ended with a man shooting and killing a woman, and the woman’s boyfriend now facing murder charges.

Police responded to a shooting on Riverwalk Parkway near Selwir Road around 3:10 p.m. and found a woman shot in the chest. WSOC-TV reported:.

But police told the station Thursday that Reed was charged with murder because he brought the gun and gave it to Lindsay.

Investigators told the station that the man and 40-year-old Samaritan Lindsay worked together at a nearby business. The Post and Courier said There was a difference of opinion between the two.

According to WSOC, Lindsay was on her way home from work when she got into a car with her girlfriend, Brittney Reed, 32. The Post and Courier reported that Reed was driving.

The man got into his car and tried to drive away, but Reed blocked his path with his own vehicle while in traffic, police said.

Police told WSOC that Lindsay walked up to the passenger side window of the man’s car and pulled out a gun, but the man also pulled out a gun and shot Lindsay, police said.

The sheriff’s office said Reed punched the man in the face and yelled at the woman to leave, which caused her to leave. The man then waited for officers to arrive and was taken into custody, WSOC said.

Lindsay was taken to Piedmont Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, the station said.

“Taking these factors into consideration, the shooting was in self-defense and the male will not be charged,” police told WSOC, adding that Reed was charged with assault on Wednesday.

But police told the station Thursday that Reed was charged with murder because he brought the gun and gave it to Lindsay.

A judge denied Reed’s bail and officers seized two handguns, WSOC reported, and the investigation is ongoing, the station said.

The identity of the male driver had not been released as of Thursday, and police were not disclosing the company that employed the pair, The Post and Courier reported.
