The driver who struck and decapitated an elderly pedestrian in Brooklyn looks inconsolable in a new video capturing the horrific scene.
Police and passersby tried to comfort him, but the man knelt on the Brooklyn street and at times slumped over in grief, the video showed. Social Media Thursday.
The unidentified driver, wearing a bright yellow vest, was in a city transportation department truck when he allegedly hit an 86-year-old man, identified as Antonio Conigliaro.
Police said the man, in his 80s, lived just a few minutes’ walk from the accident scene in Bay Ridge.
The disturbing footage also showed the head yards away from the rest of the victim’s body as he collapsed on the crosswalk.
“Oh my god, today is the worst,” the woman can be heard saying in the video.
She added that the driver was trying to turn the corner at Dahlgren Place when the accident happened, which is known to be a dangerous intersection.
“Especially the pedestrian signs. They light up but then when you get to the middle of the road they go off. It’s really dangerous for people with disabilities or people who can’t walk fast,” said Samia Haq, a Bay Ridge resident. He told News 12 last week.
The NYPD said the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
