A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) advisory committee suggested that supporters of former President Donald Trump, people who have served in the military, or people of faith are more likely to pose a domestic terrorism risk, according to internal files obtained by America First Legal.
The committee, named the “Homeland Intelligence Expert Group,” which is now disbanded, was established in September 2023 to provide the Department of Homeland Security with “expert” analysis on issues such as terrorism and trafficking in certain controlled substances, such as fentanyl.
The committee included former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan, both of whom signed false termination letters in October 2020, according to an investigation by a conservative legal nonprofit. “There is a political context behind all of this. Currently, most of the domestic terrorism threats appear to be coming from supporters of the former president. While not seeking political advantage, people have been attacking our government and its institutions for the past six years,” according to the committee’s meeting notes.
The committee also quoted anonymous “researchers” as saying that certain characteristics, such as people who have “served in the military” or are “religious,” are “indicators of extremism and terrorism” and that the United States should be “much more concerned.”
“When we ask researchers to look closely at indicators of extremism or terrorism, they may point to military or religious personnel,” the committee said. “The fact that these indicators have been uncovered shows that we should be more concerned about these people. We need a forum to have an honest conversation about this.”
The files were released on Friday as the second installment of the AFL’s “#DeepStateDiaries”, which the organisation described as a “multi-part release series containing newly obtained documents”.
“These shocking records reveal the blatant partisanship in this deep state commission,” AFL Executive Director Gene Hamilton told Fox News Digital. “Any attempt to weaponize the federal government against the ruling party’s political opponents must stop.
