British political activist Tommy Robinson was arrested on Monday evening in Calgary, Canada, after giving a speech about the importance of freedom of speech and was then detained by around 10 undercover plainclothes police officers.

At press time, Calgary police had not released any information on why the British political activist was arrested. However, Robinson previously Convicted Entering the United States using a friend’s passport.
Robinson was released after being held for several hours but had his passport confiscated and was ordered not to leave Alberta, which he said may prevent him from continuing a speaking tour that had been scheduled to stop in Edmonton and Toronto.

Professor Jordan Peterson, one of Canada’s most prominent intellectuals, commented on the arrests: I have written“Canadians, wake up. The police are now being used directly as political agents of the state. I don’t know who gave the orders, but this is unacceptable.”
“You stupid leftists may be happy with this as it stands, but you’d be mistaken to think that once established, this won’t be used against you.”
Robinson rose to fame by founding the English Defence League (EDL) in response to the grooming gang scandal, in which young white girls were sexually abused, raped and tortured by mainly Pakistani grooming gangs for decades, but continues to be targeted by the British justice system.
Between 2005 and 2019, he served four prison sentences, the most recent of which was in maximum security Belmarsh prison for breaching press regulations by filming outside court during a grooming gang trial, which saw the defendants jailed for a “campaign of rape and other sexual abuse” against vulnerable girls.
Most recently, Robinson was arrested for allegedly breaching a ban on attending pro-Israel protests in London in November. In April, Westminster Magistrates’ Court ruled that the police order banning him from attending the protests was unlawful.
