Rogue bureaucrats are the true threat to our democracy

Has the Left Forgotten What Democracy Means?

Recent Associated Press article The article, headlined “Conservative-backed group compiles list of federal employees suspected of resisting Trump’s plan,” described a project by the American Accountability Foundation to identify and compile a list of corrupt bureaucrats at the Department of Homeland Security. Of course, this doesn’t sit well with the left or public sector unions.

Accusing those who expose unelected left-wing bureaucrats of working to “undermine our democracy” is an astonishing act of brazen duplicity.

“This effort… has stunned democratic experts and shocked the public service community, to the point that it is comparable to the McCarthyite Red Scare,” the Associated Press reported. Skye Perryman, CEO of the advocacy group Democracy Forward, was quoted as saying, “They are trying to undermine our democracy. … They are trying to undermine the way our government works for the people.”

The extreme opposition to our project from the left is not particularly surprising. We aim to remove leftists from the Department of Homeland Security who will undermine a future president’s efforts to secure the southern border. This would be a major setback for the left’s open border agenda.

However, what they actually say is deeply disturbing and reveals something truly dark about the contemporary American left.

Abraham Lincoln described America’s government as “of the people, by the people, for the people.” America is a representative republic, meaning that the government’s authority comes from the people. As such, our laws are written in Congress by our elected representatives and executed by a President who is elected every four years by “we the people.”

Now, as we try to expose radical left-wing bureaucrats who use their positions to sabotage and undermine the man the American people elected, the left has adopted a different political philosophy that is entirely un-American: To them, the American people are too stupid and “ignorant” to decide who should govern and what should be done. Instead, the left wants these unelected liberal bureaucrats to govern.

Then, to accuse those who exposed the unelected left-wing bureaucrats of working to “undermine our democracy” is an astonishing feat of brazen duplicity. It is the bureaucrats who obstruct an elected president and act according to their own agenda who are undermining democracy, not the people who hold them accountable!

Leftists may like to call this “democracy,” but no one is fooled. This is authoritarianism and tyranny. And the fact that this view of government has now become a left-wing creed is frightening. Leftists often say that “democracy dies in darkness,” but in fact the darkest places in Washington, DC are the hidden offices of bureaucrats deep within government agencies.
