Coast Guard rushes to aid people in ‘distressed’ boat that was ‘rapidly sinking’

The U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies rescued two adults and three children from a sinking boat in San Diego Bay Tuesday morning.

in press release, Government agencies said they rescued five people from the 34-foot recreational boat, Tunatrax, at 10:44 a.m. near the entrance to San Diego Bay.

The Coast Guard’s San Diego Integrated Port Operations Center received a distress call reporting that all three of the ship’s bilge pumps had failed and water was flooding the vessel.

The Coast Guard sent recreational boaters to rescue the rapidly sinking boat, authorities said.

Mariners assisted the ship in distress by providing additional pumps to the vessel.

The five people and Tuna Tracks were transported to safety by the Coast Guard and BoatUS to Shelter Cove Marina, the department said.

The U.S. Coast Guard reminds all mariners to regularly inspect and maintain their vessels’ safety equipment.
