As the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris approaches, a number of well-known announcers are set to lend their voices to the Olympic broadcast.
But longtime NFL play-by-play announcer Al Michaels isn’t ready to take on that heavy lifting.
NBC announced that an artificial intelligence-generated version of Michaels’ voice will be used to narrate Olympic highlights on the streaming platform.

Fans will be able to customize recaps to their preferences and watch key moments from specific sports. Innovative tools built into “Your Daily Olympic Recap on Peacock” include highlight packages of up to 10 minutes.

Michaels said he was skeptical at first, but quickly bought into the idea of using his own AI-powered voice to narrate sports highlights.

“When I heard about it, I was skeptical, but of course I was interested,” Michaels said. “Then I saw a demo that detailed what they had in mind, and I said, ‘I’m in.'”
Michaels has worked Olympic games before, when the U.S. ice hockey team defeated the Soviet Union in a landslide victory in the 1980 Olympics that he called the “Miracle on Ice.”

In the final minutes of the match, Michaels uttered the iconic line, “Do you believe in miracles? I do!”, which remains a part of U.S. Olympic lore.

Michaels joined NBC Sports in 2006 as the lead announcer for “Sunday Night Football.” In 2022, he began calling games for Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football.” The upcoming 2024 season will mark Michaels’ record-setting 40th year as an NFL primetime play-by-play announcer.
