Live updates: Trump, Biden face off in high-stakes CNN debate

President Biden and President Donald Trump will face off in Atlanta in the first televised debate of the 2024 presidential election. The debate will be hosted by CNN at 9 pm EDT.

The stakes are high for both parties. Trump currently leads Biden narrowly nationally, 45% to 44%, according to a Decision Desk HQ/The Hill poll. Biden has been dogged by concerns about his age, the high cost of living and his administration’s handling of the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Meanwhile, President Trump is dealing with the fallout from his conviction in a New York hush money trial, multiple federal indictments, and an investigation into his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

At the same time, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent who did not qualify for the debate, is holding his own event. Click here to watch the RFK Jr. debate responses..
