Dave Portnoy’s sports betting streak may be over, but it didn’t take long for the Barstool founder to hit the ground running again.
On Tuesday, Portnoy placed a $200,000 bet on the Philadelphia Phillies to win the 2024 World Series at +600, projecting a profit of $1.2 million.
The huge bet came the morning after Portnoy lost $70,000 betting that the Edmonton Oilers would win the Stanley Cup.
“The winning streak was snapped last night,” Portnoy wrote to X after the Oilers’ Game 7 loss. “Can’t be mad at the Oilers. They put up a great fight. Glad my friend @elio82 won. Maybe next time he’ll bring some money to the racetrack. All good things must come to an end. Now it’s time to start a new winning streak.”
The bet on the Phillies could be the latest in what has been a lucrative year for Portnoy, who claims to have won roughly $7 million on bets since winning $1.5 million on Michigan on New Year’s Day.
Portnoy then placed a $500,000 bet on the Chiefs to beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl.
In April, Portnoy had a history-making week, winning $2.1 million at the U.S. Championship at the University of Connecticut and $1.35 million after winning the Masters with Scottie Scheffler.
The Celtics earned him another $1.6 million after winning the NBA title earlier this month.

Portnoy may have been a bit unlucky in early June when he predicted wins for both the Celtics and Oilers before either series even began.
“Guys, I hate to say this, but I’m betting $1.1 million on the Celtics and another $1 million on the Oilers.” Portnoy said on X:“If both teams win, they’ll make $7.5 million in 2024 and have won every major event this year. This should go in the history books.”
