Fox News Digital’s focus group of Republicans, Democrats and independents heard live reactions from viewers as former President Trump criticized President Biden’s economic record and said he didn’t inherit inflation when he took office.
During CNN’s presidential debate, moderator Jake Tapper asked Trump to explain how he would ensure his proposal to impose a 10% tariff on all goods entering the US would not increase inflation.
Trump said prices would not rise, but that countries like China, who have “cheated the United States for years,” would be forced to pay the U.S. large sums of money.

“This will force the government to pay out a lot of money, significantly reduce the deficit and give us a lot of power to do other things,” Trump said.
These comments received the most positive reactions from Republicans and Independents, as evidenced by the index’s sharp increases. Democrats had a more negative reaction, with the index declining slightly.
The Biden-Trump presidential debate was an unprecedented event
Trump acknowledged his opponent’s claim that he inherited the “biggest taxes.” [and regulation] It has gone down in history.”
“That’s why we had a lot of jobs,” Trump said, “and then they went down and then they came back. And that’s why he’s trying to take credit for getting jobs back. And we can’t let that happen.”
Republicans and independents largely agreed and responded positively to these comments, while Democrats’ reactions ranged from neutral to negative.
“He also said he inherited 9 percent inflation. He barely inherited any inflation. And that went on for 14 months. And under his leadership, it got worse because a lot of people spent money without knowing what they were doing,” Trump said.

These comments caused independents to differ significantly from Republicans, who responded more negatively, while Republicans and Democrats responded roughly the same.
“Jobs are the foundation of the economy,” Trump said at another debate. [Biden] It was created to deal with illegal immigrants and to bring back jobs after COVID-19.”
