Pro Bowl wide receiver Randall Cobb posted photos online of his home moments after a fire broke out in his garage when a Tesla charger caught fire.
The fire broke out at the Nashville, Tennessee home he shares with his wife and three children. His wife, Ida Cobb, was the first to speak online about the incident: “We are lucky to be alive. Late last night our Tesla charger caught fire in our garage and it spread quickly,” she was reported to have said in an Instagram story.
“We left the house with just the clothes on our backs and no shoes.” screenshot Her post showed.
“I can’t stop thinking about the brave firefighters taking up their positions.”
Cobb himself posted a message the next day thanking firefighters and local residents for their actions.
“We’re so grateful for all the love and positive messages,” Cobb said in a joint statement. Instagram Posts Along with his wife, he wrote: “First of all, we are all safe and healthy. We were able to get out and return home to retrieve our dog, Louie. I can’t thank Chief Caruthers, Captain Irvin and the Nashville Fire Department enough for their quick response.”
Cobb seemed especially troubled by the idea that firefighters were risking their lives to protect his property.
“I can’t stop thinking about this brave firefighter taking up position, not even ready to spray water yet. I truly thought the car would explode and we would lose a firefighter in this tragedy. He is a true hero,” Cobb continued.
“Unfortunately, we don’t know how much we can save or if there is anything we can save, but this has reminded us that nothing is more important than the health of our families.”
The athlete finally expressed gratitude for the support he received from the Nashville community and close friends who provided his family with a “temporary roof.”
Cobb later released a video showing the inside of the garage, covered in ash, including the Tesla, with the walls blackened by smoke and fire damage. Another video showed a damaged Mercedes SUV as Cobb continued to survey the wreckage with fire officials.
The Nashville Fire Department CNN The blaze is believed to have been started by an electric car in the garage, and fire officials said the fire was contained to the garage but caused “severe smoke damage” elsewhere in the home.

The news comes after a recent three-year survey found that nearly half of US EV owners said they were likely to return to a gasoline-powered car. Only Australians had a stronger reaction to returning to gasoline at 49%, while US consumers had the same response at 46%.
Cobb is currently a free agent in the NFL after spending the 2023-24 season with the New York Jets. He has been in the NFL since 2011.
