Rep. Dan Goldman (D-New York) said on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” on Friday that former President Donald Trump “threatened” CNN debate hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.
“It was a bad night. It was a poor performance, but an election is not decided overnight and it does not erase three and a half years of brilliant leadership that has put our country back on the front lines of the world, defended democracy around the world, defended democracy at home, and delivered historic legislation that has benefited the vast majority of Americans, low and middle class Americans,” Goldman said. “When you compare Joe Biden to Donald Trump last night, you see that this is ultimately a choice in November between a man of integrity and honesty who has served his country his whole life, and a serial liar and self-centered felon.”
She added, “I think Joe Biden looked bad tonight. He performed poorly. There’s no question about that and nobody’s saying differently. But let’s have another debate. Let’s see what happens on another night. Let’s see if Donald Trump continues to lie over and over again to deny his role on January 6th. He brags that he increased the deficit more than any other president with tax cuts for the super-rich, yet he blatantly misinterprets the disasters of his presidency, which has garnered a lot of attention but not a lot of backlash. But let’s have another debate where the moderator counters Donald Trump’s lies. Unfortunately, he threatened your network and there was no counterargument. He’s got free reign to lie as much as he wants, and that’s not helpful to the American people.”
“Yeah, I don’t know about the intimidation part,” Cooper said.
