Illegal migrant booked for allegedly killing woman on 21st birthday

A New York woman was recently asphyxiated to death on what would have been her 21st birthday, authorities said.

The suspect, John Moises Chacaguasay-Irbis, 21, is accused of killing Joseline Joana Toakisa in Syracuse on June 18. Syracuse police told Fox News Digital that the suspect has been charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a body.

A Department of Homeland Security source recently said: New York Post Both Chacaguasay Irbis and Toakisa were in the US illegally. Both were from Ecuador.

Prosecutor Alphonse Williams told The Post-Standard in Syracuse that the suspect was staying at the Airbnb at the time of the murder, having reportedly traveled to be with Toakisa for her 21st birthday.

Eerie security camera footage shows the two entering the Airbnb at around 4:30 pm on June 18. A few hours later, Chacaguasay Irbis was recorded on video carrying Toakisa’s fallen body on his back.

Williams was told Chacaguasay-Irbis and Toakiza had attended primary school together in Ecuador, and that Toakiza had fled her home country to escape an abusive boyfriend, whose identity is unknown, according to the Post’s sources.

Williams alleges that Chacaguasay-Irbis buried Toakisa’s body in a shallow grave and then traveled to New York City on a Greyhound bus. The suspect later turned himself in to authorities.

The Syracuse Police Department told Fox News Digital that the suspect is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center and the investigation is ongoing.
