Texas suspect arrested after attacking man with machete, police say

A Texas man has been arrested after he allegedly attacked another man with a machete-style knife during a traffic altercation.

The New Braunfels Police Department said on Facebook that Michael Martin Oquatt, 66, was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police were dispatched around noon Monday to a report of a stabbing near the intersection of North Market Avenue and East San Antonio Street in New Braunfels.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a 55-year-old male victim suffering from cuts to his upper body.

Paramedics were called to the scene and after providing immediate medical attention, the victim was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition. The victim has since been released.

According to a preliminary investigation, the victim was involved in an argument with another driver who was in the vehicle, when the suspect, identified as Okwatt, confronted the victim with a machete-style knife, causing both drivers to exit the vehicle.

Okwatt was arrested on a warrant Wednesday afternoon and taken into custody without incident.

He was booked into Comal County Jail but has since been released on $50,000 bail.
