On CNN’s “The Situation Room” broadcast Monday, Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) said that if you’re a friend of President Joe Biden and have concerns about his performance in last week’s debate, “you should reach out to him privately, not say that on national television or put it in the biggest newspaper in the country.”
After Fetterman said Biden was doing a good job as president and that the debate was just a performance, moderator Pamela Brown asked about Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.)’s comments about conversations about Biden among Democrats after the debate, what he knew about those conversations and whether they should have been taking place.
Fetterman responded, “I’m a big fan of Congressman Raskin, but in this situation I don’t necessarily agree with some of his views. I’ve often disagreed with Joe Biden. Whether it’s the Israeli war or the border issue, that’s a big issue here. And if I didn’t believe exactly what I’m saying now, I wouldn’t be talking about it on your show right now. And let me also say this: If you consider yourself a friend of the president, you don’t say that on national television, you don’t put it in the biggest newspaper in the country, you reach out to him privately. But if Joe Biden doesn’t call you and ask your opinion, maybe you’re not as close a friend as you think you are. But Joe Biden deserves his support, and he’s earned it. And he’s been a great president all through it.”
