A left-wing BBC presenter has come under fire for suggesting President Biden should “kill” President Donald Trump following the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling.
“If I were Biden I would rush to kill Trump on the grounds that he is a threat to American security,” Radio 4 presenter David Aaronvich, 69, wrote on X.
The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 on Monday that Trump has immunity for any “official business” he performs while in office, but made clear that not everything the president does counts as official business.
Aaronvich’s response sparked immediate backlash. One account suggested: “Some people have had police visits for lesser amounts. Knock knock.”
When Mr Aaronvich deleted his initial post, GB News contributor Alex Armstrong accused him of “retracting” it on advice from his “reps”.
“Oh, Alex. Tell me about my ‘handler’.” Aaronovitch He replied with a sneer..
Another journalist, Jack Montgomery, suggested Aaronvich suffered from “Trump Madness Syndrome.”
“Impartiality may not be at its best at the BBC…” quipped columnist Stephen Barratt.
“If you think you can protect yourself by saying it’s satire, then you’re trying to incite violence against Donald Trump. That’s just horrible.” another commenter responded to Aaronovitch’s post.

“Dude, you explicitly told them to kill Trump,” another account chimed in. “You’re a disgusting piece of shit.”
Aaronovitch dismissed the feedback on his controversial post as “far-right attacks.” It was a “clearly satirical” idea.
“At least now we have a map of the dumbest people on the site,” he said of the backlash.
Orwell Prize winners are known for their often-scathing political views. After the 2016 Brexit vote, Aaronvich said Britain’s decision to leave the EU was This will eventually reverse as older voters start to die off..
In their dissent, Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson addressed the question of whether a president can enjoy immunity for murder, including the assassination of a political opponent. ABC News reported.
Sotomayor suggested that if the president “exercises any form of public power, the majority’s logic is that he is immune from criminal prosecution. Order Navy SEAL Unit 6 to assassinate a political opponent? Immunity.”
Monday’s ruling clears the way for Trump to continue appealing charges that he tried to unlawfully remain in power on Jan. 6, 2021, and could delay the trial in the case for several more months or years.
Trump, 78, will face Biden, 81, in the presidential election on November 5. If elected, he would become just the second president after Grover Cleveland to serve nonconsecutive terms.
