Ex-NBA player fires back at social media trolls after as name surfaces amid Spurs’ deal with Chris Paul

Brandon Paul, the former University of Illinois basketball star who played for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs, fired back at social media trolls on Monday after Chris Paul joined his former team.

Chris Paul reportedly agreed to a one-year contract when NBA free agency began. The star point guard famously wore the number 3 jersey throughout his professional and collegiate career. Brandon Paul also wore the number 3 during his 64 games with the Spurs in the 2017-18 season.

This prompted one post on X aimed at Spurs fans.

“Great news for all the Spurs fans who have been saving their Brandon Paul jerseys,” college football writer Steve Helwick posted on the social media platform alongside a photo of the former NBA player.

Brandon Paul had his own message.

“The only thing worse than being trolled online is being trolled online by people with blue checkmarks who work at stores like Menards,” he wrote.

The former basketball player took all the trolling in stride and even praised Helwick’s original post.

“Haha no no this is love bro. I was talking about the comments but this is a ton of laughs. Thanks for sharing,” he added.

Paul averaged 12 points per game while at Illinois, where the team reached the NCAA Tournament in two of his four seasons.
